Spline
Splines are often specified either when a pin is post inserted into a molded plastic part or its presssed into another metal part. Generally if a pin is insert molded a star is chosen. Splines offer good retention while not increasing the diameter of the feature too much. Splines are also created in the rolling die, so making a spline does not slow down production rates.
